SCROLL

What inspired your Instagram handle @roxthefriendlyghost?

I’ve loved spooky things my whole life, and when I watched Casper the Friendly Ghost for the first time as a kid, I thought it was just the cutest thing. So I’m hoping that my handle gives off the impression that I’m just your friendly local neighborhood witch.

How would you describe your Instagram aesthetic and how do you solidify it?

I have a running joke that my aesthetic is having no aesthetic. It’s changed so many times over the course of my Instagram (which you can see if you scroll through it) but ultimately I keep coming back to browns & neutrals. I have darker features and I like for the colors to be retained when I edit. I also have finally learned that you can love someone’s aesthetic – for example, @talliia and @luna.lindsay have the cutest colorful feeds – without trying to recreate it. I can appreciate bright colors in the world, but I think my feed will always be more muted.

Who / What inspires you?

I get a lot of inspiration for color palettes, poses, things to take pictures of, etc. from Pinterest or the Explore page on Instagram. I also like to follow accounts whose aesthetics I love. A few include @haleyivers, @audreyrivet @prettylittlefawn, @aliviafields, and @daysofrae. I’ve also always been drawn to vintage photography and fashion, so I try to evoke that in my edits and pictures.

What is your favorite part of the content creation process?

Editing! I use VSCO and other apps, depending on the effect I want.

Hair done or hair messy?

Natural, messy volume with a little mousse to keep things in place.

What has been your greatest adventure?

Moving to California for college without knowing anyone. I met the most amazing people and can’t wait to move back one day. And my current adventure is going through my first year of law school!

Two current guilty pleasures?

Caramel macchiatos and re-watching “You” on Netflix.

Describe an outfit that makes you feel most confident.

Denim-on-denim, or a black turtleneck with tons of gold jewelry/dark jeans/booties!

What is one fashion trend you wish never happened and why?

The bulky, studded jean trend that was around in the ‘00s. It looked great on some people but overall it wasn’t my thing.

If you could take a yearlong paid sabbatical, what would you do?

Travel, sit on the beach somewhere, read, and write a ton of music.
