What is a piece of fashion advice you’d offer to 16-year-old you?

I had major body image and self-esteem struggles as a teenager. I’d tell her that it’s ok if you don’t feel comfortable wearing low-rider jeans and tank tops , Holister really isn’t that cool anyways. But also, hoard those Sophie Shorts because they’re super comfy and you’ll wish you had some more 13 years from now.

How would you describe your personal style?

Modern boho.

Who is your favorite fashion icon and why?

Honestly – lately I’ve been really digging Villanelle’s style from the TV show Killing Eve. She’s a fashion QUEEN.

What are some up and coming brands that you want your followers to know about?

I think it’s really important right now to support local, smaller brands and also brands that are sustainable. Off the top of my head: Betabrand, Everlane, Orie Everyday, Summersalt.

What was the best style advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t dress for other people. Wear what makes YOU feel confident.

Heels or Flats?

Depends on the time and place! Usually flats as we’re travel bugs and heels just don’t cut it in National Parks.

Where do you find your style inspiration?

Instagram, TikTok and TV shows.

What inspired you to start blogging?

On a whim, I moved from Wisconsin to San Francisco after college. My now-husband Robin, who back then was my boyfriend, for some reason agreed to moving across the country to a city I’ve never been to, with no jobs and no apartment lined up. It was the craziest and most rewarding leap of faith I ever took. Those first few months I didn’t know anyone in the city, so I started Whimsy Soul as a hobby to occupy my lonely nights.

What is your favorite part about blogging?

I didn’t expect this blog to have such a huge impact on my life, but over the past four years, Whimsy Soul has lead me to some of my best friends, adventures all over the world, daily challenges that help me grow and to a fantastic community of likeminded women (our readers!) My favorite part is just connecting with others & knowing I can use my influence for good.

How do you create your content and what equipment do you use?

I used to be a professional wedding photographer so it was easy to for me to start creating photos. I actually ended up training my husband and he now takes most of the photos for Whimsy Soul. We used a Canon DSLR for most of our content, but also iPhone for spur-of the moment things, a drone and then also a vlogging camera for YouTube.
