My aesthetic is bright, pastel, vintage-inspired, whimsical, and feminine.
What inspires your Instagram content?
I get a lot of inspiration from the music, films, fashion, art and interior design of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. That has always been the culture I’ve surrounded myself with in my day-to-day life. My style icons are Marianne Faithfull, Stevie Nicks, Ann-Margret, Jayne Mansfield – I have always admired and appreciated an over-the-top-feminine aesthetic.
Describe your personal style?
My personal style is feminine, retro, playful, and unique. I wear a lot of saturated pastel colors, and I love taking a vintage-inspired look and making it modern. I don’t actually wear many vintage pieces, but rather new pieces that have a retro look – to me, it’s always a joy to find a psychedelic print dress, go-go boots, a feather-trimmed robe, or super-mod statement earrings. I love to stand out and express my personality through the way I dress. Go big or go home!
What are some brands that are staples in your closet?
Most of my clothes are from The Naughty Girl Shop and Rebel Rebel Boutique – their clothes are so flattering and sexy but also incredibly girly, which I love. For work looks, I get my suits and more conservative clothes from House of Harlow, J. Crew, and obviously StyleFav! As far as designer brands go, I adore my few pieces from Alice McCall and For Love & Lemons – they suit my look so well.
What is your favorite item of clothing?
I really cherish the Chanel clutch my mom gave me for my 25th birthday; I love breaking it out for special occasions!
Describe an outfit that makes you feel the most confident.
I always feel confident in a 70s-inspired wide-leg suit over a camisole or crop top. I wear a lot of brightly colored or sparkly suits to work. It makes me feel powerful but still very feminine!
Do you have any fashion rules when putting together an outfit?
If the top of the outfit is tight and revealing, the bottom shouldn’t be, and vice versa – it’s all about balance. And always include pops of color, texture or sparkle – when it comes to fashion, there’s nothing worse than blending in!
How do you feel about trends? What’s one fashion trend that has become a fashion staple for you?
I am ambivalent about trends. On one hand, I love newness and adding fun new ideas to my wardrobe. On the other, I’m 33 and my style has not really changed since I was 21 or so. I’ve seen ‘my look’ go in and out of style many times over the years, and that’s fine with me. I know what I like, I generally don’t wear something just because it’s in style, and I think it’s more interesting to create trends than to follow them! The one trend I have come around to, though, is wide leg pants – they’re so flattering and chic.
What are three skin care tips you can offer our readers?
1. Use products with simple, natural ingredients. Products with unnatural chemicals in them – even if you got them from a dermatologist – can really wreak havoc on your skin. I know from experience!
2. Start using antiaging cream in your late 20s, and and eye cream and serum in your early 30s. It feels early but it’s easier to prevent signs of aging in the first place than to try to erase them later.
3. Learn from the experts! Anytime you get a facial or get your hair or makeup done, make mental notes and try to copy it later – you’ll learn so much!
In a movie about your life, which celebrity would you want to play you?
I’ve been told for years that I look like Evan Rachel Wood and I absolutely love Westworld, so I guess I’d say her!
