How would you describe your personal style?

Comfortable yet stylish.

How has becoming a mom impacted your personal style?

After I became a mom I needed to choose pieces that I could easily move in and that would make me feel confident in as my body changed. Now that I have been a mom a while I would still say comfortable clothes but I try to still add a little something to be fully put together.

Describe your favorite outfit.

My favorite outfit is comfortable, classy, but stylish. I think it is hard to pick just one but I will tie the two together. I love a dress with a denim jacket or blazer over it. I wear dresses all year long even in Chicago weather. If it is cold I throw leggings under the dress and I look warm but still stylish. I also love an outfit with comfortable jeans and a cute top fitted on the top and bit flowier on the bottom but also with a layer like a denim jacket, cardigan, or fitted blazer. I have really been liking leopard as my pattern of choice.

What fashion style tips and tricks can you offer to the new moms out there?

As a new mom you are trying to learn how to adapt to a new lifestyle and your style has to go along with it. When I first became a mom I was also nursing my son. I needed tops that were great for nursing and also forgiving in the middle as your tummy doesn’t go back right away. That is a harsh reality, you hope to leave the hospital back in your jeans. Some can do this and that is amazing but that wasn’t the case for me. I had to work hard to get back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. I gained more weight than planned as I lost my father to cancer while I was 7 months pregnant. I think I was pretty sad those last few months. I think it is also okay to wear maternity pants a bit longer as needed. I really didn’t want to do this so I tried to go up a size to work with what I had without looking currently pregnant or frumpy. New moms can look stylish but my advice is to embrace your current look and body, add a layer or go up a size. One thing I say about size is that no one knows what size pants you are wearing but if you try to squeeze into clothes that don’t fit you then you make yourself look bigger than you are.

What’s the best style advice you’ve been given?

The best style advice I have been given to work with what you’ve got. Decide what part of your body you love the most and accentuate it. For me I love my tiny shoulders so I show them off with off the shoulder or cold shoulder tops. I have a heavy chest from nursing my two as most go down I went up, I don’t like to wear tight tops because I feel they make me look top heavy which makes you appear heavier and no one wants that. I also feel I have a defined waist, not washboard by any means but it is important to define the waist you have.

What are some up and coming fashion brands that you think our readers should know about?

I typically shop at Target, Maurices, and Old Navy but also like a few online boutiques that I support. West Raspberry and CS Gems are a few of my favorites. I also like Tory Burch and Michael Kors for a bit higher end. I am all about wearing what is affordable, I am a teacher so I am currently on a budget.

Gym or outdoors?

I prefer to be outdoors but do like warm weather. I am not one to be walking in the cold for activity. I mean shopping can count in the winter, right?

What’s your favorite season to dress for and why?

My favorite season to dress for is summer by far. I love the warm weather and the tan to my skin in certain colors and styles. I love to throw on a flowy dress or a cute romper in the summer. I am often running my kids to different activities so I like to wear comfortable clothes but do like to also take the time to appear put together. I never like to look like a disheveled mom. I might be one on the inside but that doesn’t mean I have to look like one on the outside.

What are some of your current fashion faves?

Currently, I am loving leopard everything. It is the cutest pattern and can be a neutral with the colors. I have also learned to embrace snake skin and camo, those took a bit longer as a sell for me but now I love them. I also love a fitted blazer over a tank, flowy top, or even over a dress. One trend I love is the paperbag pants trend, I have several colors from Amazon. The waist is so cute and I am loving anything with a tie. I can’t get enough of tie waist tops, they are so cute and make any look appear more stylish.

What’s the last thing you googled?

Covid 19 in Illinois, I google this daily in our current situation. I check in with my state daily so I have the most up to date information. It is a sad reality but the opportunity to slow down and spend quality time with my family is definitely a blessing. I want my children to look back on this time and remember the baking, movies, games, and fun we had and not the stress that was on our world.
