I always have a different quote that resonates with me, but right now it’s “disappoint as many people as it takes to avoid disappointing yourself” because that’s one I have to work on constantly.
What three words would you use to describe your Instagram aesthetic?
1. relaxed 2. creative 3. personal
How did you develop your Instagram aesthetic?
I’ve always been in love with aesthetics, whether it was a Pinterest board, an outfit, or a well-designed room. I’ve also always had distinct taste, so I really just go off of what I think looks beautiful. I switch off between a picture of me and a picture of an item every other post, but otherwise I just post whatever I think is pretty and meaningful.
What tips and tricks can you offer our readers on developing their Instagram aesthetic?
It helps to see the Instagram grid laid out. If I’m deciding between two pictures, I’ll use the Preview app to see which one will fit better in the feed. I also mentally plan ahead of what content I want to create, so will always be thinking of what’s coming next, whether that means getting some shots on the weekend when I put makeup on (a rarity these days) and forcing my boyfriend to take some outfit pictures, or picking a food shot. I’ve always heard to look for similarities when cultivating an aesthetic, but I like to look for variety. In my opinion, any white space brings each picture together enough. You can have variety and get creative when building content.
What is your content creation process like?
I wish I could say it was more streamlined, but I am definitely more casual about it than I should be. I typically just have ideas of what would make a great shot or what I haven’t posted about in a while (like if I should post an OOTD if it’s been a while or a close-up shot if I’ve done enough OOTDs recently). I also bookmark posts from other content creators if I’m really inspired by the layout or positioning of the camera to always be challenging myself to try new things.
What is your favorite thing about creating content for Instagram?
I love visuals, but for me, writing captions is the best. After seeing the same kind of captions over and over for years, I decided to put more value to the world. Posting pictures of myself has always felt a little silly to me. Like who really cares about what I’m wearing, or who cares if I think I look good in this picture? So even if I want to post something for the aesthetic, I make sure to provide a caption that will be helpful and resonate with my audience.
How would you describe your personal style and how did you develop it?
I like to call my personal style relaxed glam. I love anything with an interesting or different detail, and feel like my best self in a pair of heels or fancy dangly earrings, but always like to leave a little edge, whether it’s an untucked shirt or bedhead so it doesn’t look like I tried too hard. As for how I developed it, I’ve always loved fashion, but I love the balance of it most. Like if something’s too edgy, I love to add some prep to it, or if something’s too put-together, then adding a messiness makes it perfection. I think balance is the key to good fashion, and it’s what I think of most consistently when getting dressed.
What are the most worn and least worn items in your fashion collection and why?
While this is always changing, the few pieces I wear consistently are: my trench coat I’ve had for years, a pair of boyfriend jeans, and a good cropped black pant. I’ve also been obsessed with my knee-high snakeskin boots for a few years now and would wear them whenever I leave the house if I could. As for least, I don’t wear my fancier dresses often (I don’t have many fancy occasions lol), but when I do, I absolutely love them. Otherwise, I try to donate whatever I don’t wear so I have room for more clothes… I have a problem!!
If you could create a capsule collection with any brand which brand would it be and what fashion pieces would you create?
In my dream world, my capsule collection would be with Chanel because I love the history of the brand and how much Chanel defined current culture. But as I’m not the ideal “Chanel type” (much too clumsy/cheap for that), I think Zara would be the best brand for me because it’s affordable, relatable, but reminiscent of high fashion. I would definitely include a really chunky heel, a classic purse with gold detail, and some unique pieces like a lot of puffy sleeves, blazers in different textures, and rich, jewel tones.
What has been your most exciting moment since becoming an influencer?
Starting my own business! I’ve always loved helping women become their happiest and healthiest selves through my content, but I knew I wanted to do more. Since starting my holistic health coaching business, I have been so lucky to work with so many amazing women and help them upgrade their diets, heal their symptoms, and, most importantly, boost their confidence and happiness. It has been the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever gotten to do!
