What inspired your love for fashion?

I grew up watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air in the 90s. I really admired Hillary Banks’s (played by Karyn Parsins ) sense of style and fashion. It was a great source of inspiration and had a huge impact on my fashion sense. She was always on point, chic and classy. I have memories of trying to re-create her style with whatever I could find in my closet.

How would you define fashion?

For me, fashion isn’t merely about the clothing you wear. It’s also about how you carry yourself when you wear that specific garment, it is a confidence booster. It’s a way of expressing yourself and projecting a statement, a mood without saying a word. Fashion is art.

Where do you go for style inspiration?

Everywhere-magazines, social media (I’m obsessed with Pinterest), and thrift stores.

Describe your personal style.

My style is timeless chic and elegant. I like sleek and straight cuts with a pop of colour. Simple garments that make a statement.

Tell us a little bit about your heritage and the fashion that comes with it. How does your heritage impact your personal style?

Growing up in Africa was an enriching experience. The style there is combination on bold, colourful ethnic prints and western glamour. Growing up, my parents instilled in me the importance of always looking presentable – it is a sign of respect to others and ourselves. But most importantly it is an extension on our personalities, it gives us the freedom to express ourselves.

Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?

I don’t really have a rule, but I would say to always wear something that you feel comfortable in. When you are in doubt or not sure what wear, black with a bold accessory is always a great option.

City Escape or tropical holiday?

I’m a city girl but if I have to choose, most definitely tropical holiday. You really don’t have to worry too much about unpredictable weather.

What are some of your current fashion obsessions?

Right now, due the COVID situation, joggers and an off the shoulder top is my everyday go to outfit. Normally, I’m obsessed with pleated skirts and high waisted pants.

Who is your favourite fashion icon?

Naomi Campbell. Not only she’s a fashion icon but she is “The Queen” of the runway. Her sense of style is always impeccable. She is one of the reasons why I started modelling.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

You will not always get what you want in life, but if you remain grateful and content with what you have now: you will live a more fulfilled life and the rest will come in due time.
