How do you start your day?
Honestly just scrolling through social media haha. I wish I had a cute morning routine like making a smoothie or doing yoga, but I’m not there yet. I will sometimes write down dreams if I have really good ones though!
What is one fashion trend you wish never happened and why?
Those extreme crop shirts/shrugs that don’t even reach your boobs. I live for a good crop top but those shirts made no sense to me. Especially these days when my motivation to wear a bra is at an all-time low, why would I intentionally buy a piece of clothing that makes it mandatory to wear something underneath? Ain’t nobody got time for that.
What is one fashion trend that has become a staple in your personal style?
Mom jeans! I went through a phase of exclusively wearing skinny jeans , but then I came to my senses and realized that I’d much rather give my legs a chance to breathe. I also love how mom jeans can be dressed up or down and go with almost any type of footwear.
In a movie about your life, which celeb would you want to play you?
She’s obviously way out of my league but I relate with Jennifer Lawrence a lot and think she’d totally nail the part. Jennifer (we’re obviously on first name basis) has the best self-deprecating humor and I vibe with that because there really is no reason to take yourself so seriously.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style changes from day to day because I wear the outfit that’s going to give me confidence on that particular day. Sometimes that can be a tomboyish look with sneakers and a hoodie, but other times it’ll be leather booties, chunky accessories and a tailored blouse. It’s so much more fun making different styles work for you rather than trying to fit into a niche.
How did you develop your personal style?
Being a commuter student, I spend a lot of time on the subway going from home to campus and back. These long trips on the train turned me into a huge people watcher. Toronto is made up of a really diverse and eclectic population so you’ll always find people who are dressed in completely unique ways rather than just wearing whatever’s trendy. Observing all these different individuals has played a big part in inspiring me to experiment with and evolve my personal style. The best part of fashion is that it can be influenced by just about anything, and for me, the people of Toronto have been the most influential.
If you could go back in time and tell your past self DON’T WEAR THAT! Describe which outfit that would be?
Okay, let’s keep this between you and me, but throughout middle school I thought colour-blocking was the coolest thing. The only problem was that my interpretation of an effective colour-block outfit was way off the mark. I’d just pick a solid coloured sweater (let’s say hot pink) and a solid coloured pair of yoga pants (lavender, for example), throw my hair in two pigtails, and call it a day. I have pictures from that era, but I plan to do everything in my power to never let them see the light of day. Thank god smartphones weren’t around yet.
What are the last three fashion items you bought?
- A “Toronto vs Everybody” oversized graphic tee from Peace Collective because, you know, hometown pride.
- A Michael Kors hoodie that I thrifted on Bunz. The details are to die for.
- A co-ord mock neck shirt and skirt set from Shein with a houndstooth print all over. The bad b**** energy that set gives me is unreal.
What item in your closet do you wear the most?
My little black booties! Some people get satisfaction from the sound of their nails click-clacking on their phone screen. I get satisfaction from my heels click-clacking on the sidewalk. I take every opportunity I get to wear my booties, just short of exercising in them.
Picture yourself in three years what are you wearing?
Honestly, I’m not sure and that really excites me! If you’d asked me the exact same question three years ago, I don’t think I’d ever have guessed that I’d be dressing the way I do today. So I’d rather just go with the flow and be surprised. But maybe I’ll manifest a pair of Louboutin stilettos. A girl can dream.
