What was the best style advice you ever received?
If you can’t stop thinking about it, buy it! I have a lot of rules when it comes to shopping, to prevent myself from overspending and buying things that I’ll regret. However, there have been a few times that I’ve left an item in store but then thought about it everyday for a week after the fact. In those situations I’ve been advised that it’s probably something that will make me extremely happy every time I wear it and therefore I should go get it! Shopping should be a positive experience, so this has definitely been something I’ve carried with me throughout the years.
What is one thing every girl should have in their wardrobe?
I believe that a black blazer is absolutely essential to every girl’s wardrobe. For me, my oversized blazer is something that I wear at least once a week, and I love how it can be styled in so many ways. It’s a great item to layer with in the Fall and Winter, but also to pair with a little bralette and biker shorts in the Spring!
Who is your favorite fashion icon?
It’s difficult to choose just one because I gather inspiration from so many amazing women. However, I do feel that Kourtney Kardashian has a totally underrated style! I love that she’s a petite like me and can pull of the simplest of outfits, but make a statement in them. Plus the fact that she’s in her 40’s now makes her style that much cooler!
Do you have any personal fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
I certainly do! I actually just did a blog post on this (www.thisishaley.com) but I’ll list out my top rules for you here. I stick to neutral tones and earthy colours only, wear high quality materials, avoid short-lived trends, and focus on classic pieces. I also make sure that my outfits are functional and comfortable to wear, meaning that if it looks good but doesn’t feel good, then it’s not making it out the door!
What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
I’m becoming more and more obsessed with monochrome outfits and matching sets! I love wearing little bralettes underneath a button down shirt and matching shorts, especially in the Spring and Summer seasons. I also find myself gravitating towards Mom style jeans and mini bags right now!
What has been your all-time favorite fashion purchase and why?
I have this one dress shirt from Zara that I purchased years ago, and I still wear it religiously to this day. It’s an amazingly soft material, and even though it’s white it’s actually not see-through like a lot of other tops are. A white button-down shirt is a total necessity in my wardrobe because I wear it everywhere. It’s great as a swimsuit coverup at the beach, paired with trousers for work and even over a little bralette with denim shorts or jeans. I have not yet found a similar top that even compares to the quality or fit of this one!
Two current guilty pleasures?
This isn’t even fashion related, but I’ve definitely been guiltily consuming a lot of the Cadbury plain milk-chocolate bars recently. It’s delicious with wine or just as a late night snack with tea! Another guilty pleasure of mine right now would be high end fragrances like Byredo and Le Labo. My personal fave at the moment is Bal D’Afrique by Byredo, but one bottle costs near to $300! It’s a souvenir I bought in Paris, but I’m definitely using it up quickly!
What are three words that best describe your Instagram aesthetic?
Minimal, refined and feminine.
What are 5 of your holy-grail lifestyle products?
The 5 Minute Journal, Saje Diffuser, Healthish Co. water bottle which has time markers on the side so I can track my water intake, Calyx Calm CBD Oil for use before bed and my dry brush for exfoliating my body and reducing any cellulite or loose skin.
If you could take a year-long paid sabbatical, what would you do?
Most definitely travel! I, like many other people I assume, have quite the travel bug right now. I’m craving a café au lait from Paris and the salty air from Los Angeles beaches. Those two cities are my go-to’s when it comes to travelling, but I would also love to explore more of Europe, like Italy, Greece, Spain and Sweden. Travelling for a year would be an absolute dream come true!
